SEED SPREADER

IN COLLABORATION WITH GARDENA

The seed spreader range of Gardena consists on big trolleys. They don't have hand held products targeting users with a small garden. The goal of this project was then to design:

"A simple hand held product, that would be easy to use to spread seeds on small lawns"

ERGONOMICS

According to studies, the optimal "Thumb-Index finger grip” diameter (⌀T-I) is between 33 to 48mm to cover the biggest amount of adult men and women. An important factors is also the oval shape that is often mistakenly considered as circular.

To ensure comfort, the angle of the wrist needs to be "neutral" which means around 100° with the handle. The weight of the product full can't be over 1-1,5kg.

IDEATION

A user testing was conducted with rapid prototypes to evaluate the different concepts. It made clearer which angle and position the handle should have.

FINAL CONCEPT

A lot of different aspects of Product Design were covered during this project: from sketching to rendering, with prototyping, user testing, ergonomics research and brand DNA implementation. It was not always easy to put every limitations and key elements together. At the end it was a quite complete process where I've learned a lot. The most important point I will remember is the importance of user testing.
